The Colours of A Cake

Recently, I just started baking again after taking a long break for scholarship applications, interviews, etc. Yeah, well, my blog post of the day is obviously The Colours of A Cake. It seems really unhealthy, isn't it? A cake with colourS......maybe or maybe not.

You see, a cake may be of one visible colour but inside it are the colours of life. The colours which make this world simply beautiful. You may not know, but a self-made cake can bring so much joy to the people you baked it for. The smile, the surprise, the gratitude...are the things that keep bringing me back to the art of baking.

A cake is made of love, initiative, hard work, practise, sacrifices and a really good intention. It may be a birthday cake, 'I'm Sorry' cake, Mother's Day cake or maybe simply a daily 'Thank You for being around for me' cake. The latter is my favourite as the gratitude in my heart is for all the people who has influence my life in one way or another. However, sadly, I do have the time nor resources to bake cakes for every single one of them. I could only manage a single but sincere 'Thank You' to all of them.

It doesn't matter whether it is a Chocolate Cake, Chiffon Cake, Carrot Cake or a Upside Down Pineapple  Cake: it doesn't matter whether it is too sweet, bitter, salty or perhaps tasteless. Because all that matters is the time, effort and initiative. These are the colours of a cake. These are the colours of life. These are the colours that surround us every single day. And these are the colours that sustain the existance of mankind. The colours in a cake is what make this life more meaningful.

You get me, don't you?

I am lucky

I am lucky in many ways. I have a family that loves me, I have so many great teachers that I can never thank enough, I have friends that are so special in everywhere and I know what I enjoy, what i love......Yes,yes and yes. But right now, I am going to talk about my friends.

Friends. This word holds a lot of emotions that I never knew. Every one of them is different, every one of them is special. I don't talk much about them, as to me, they are something very close to my heart, something personal.

More than a year ago, mingling with friends is not exactly my thing. In school, time is precious, homework must be finished there and then, so talking, even a bit, means I have to burn another midnight or perhaps early morning oil. As soon as the bell rings, it is time to pack my bag and rush down to the car and head to the gym. Lunch is eaten in the car. Then, training time, right up to six something. By the time that I get home, I will be too tired to do anything, much less 'facebooking'. I knew that these are the sacrifises that I had to make as a gymnast, to make myself and people I love proud. So, there was really no time for friends.

But things are different now, with the help of my friends, I am able to adjust to my 'new life'. It was hard at first, to open up to friends but I took one step at a time. I get to mingle and socialise with my friends more frequently. And yes, it is a good thing here. I get to share things and talk without stammering that much. Now, I am proud to say I am enjoying every part of it. You know what, i no longer hide myself behind the busy schedule. The wall is being torn down bit by bit but I am not quite there yet.

Well, my friends, if you are reading this, all I want to say is thank you, for listening, for your advice, for your help, for your guidance, for your support, for putting up with me ( sorry if I ever offend anyone), for being there .......but most of all THANKS FOR BEING MY FRIEND.

Good friends are like stars. You don`t always see them, but you know they are always there.

Colours in Everything

Colours are everywhere in our lives. From people to plants to book and to our mind. Sounds queer? Colours are never dull. Life is never dull with colours.

We see colours in people not only because they wear clothes of different colours but also because they have different characters. That is why people are never dull. They are colourful. We see yellow when they are happy, grey when they are sad, red when they are angry, blue when they are calm......Not one human being carries the same colour at all times. So we need to cherish the people that surround us. These people are colours in our lives.

Books have colours. Common right? But try to think...What are the colours behind the colourful covers, words and pictures? Colours of knowledge, colours of joy, colours of an enlighted mind.....Red, blue, green, brown, purple, pink...Books bring colours into our lives. Without books, our lives will be dull, boring and without colours. Without knowledge, there are no colours in our lives. A person who never reads has only one single colour. But each book a person reads will allow the person to gain an extra colour into his/her collection to colour a fulfilling life.

People and books have colours. No problem. But a mind has colours too? What does that mean? Our thoughts are our colours. A mind is as pure as a garden. And the garden has lots and lots of colourful flowers and butterflies. So it is our duty to stand guard at the entrance of the garden. When we have positive thoughts, it brings more colours to our garden of mind but as soon as a worry thought  enter our mind, the colours of the flowers will slowly fade. That is how important colours are to our mind.

A creative mind is a colourful mind. True enough. New ideas are new colours. Interesting thoughts are colours. Determination is a colour. Patience is a colour. Together they make a colourful mind. A colourful life.

When there are colours, there is hope. So hope is always there as colours are everywhere.

What A Day

To start off with, today is Serdang Rhythmic Angels Classification Competition. The event started at about 8.30 am and continued right until 5.30 pm. A long long day indeed.I have been assigned to be the emcee of the day together with Li Xin che-che. I guess we had the easiest job there as we talked and then did our job, talked again....haha..Really, I must admit that I am really talkative.

Overall, my little girls did pretty well. All of them passed. It was a big relief for me! On certain occasions, I felt that I was overreacting communicating with the gymnasts with sign language from behind the judges table. Of course, I did not feel that way then. But on hindsight, it looked as if I was more nervous than they were.Awkward....!!

Well, now I am pretty pumped up to start training the girls all over again next Saturday. Moving on with rope and ball , starting from the basic, will not be an easy job, but I am ready to take on the challenge. At the same time, I am ready to learn and gain some experience. Guess I will be starting to scout for music right now (erm, a little too excited aren't I?)

On the sidelines, we received the presence of Miss Katja who came to watch the competition, to meet as well as to bid goodbye to all of us. She will be heading home to Germany tonight. Really hope to visit her some time soon....

The competition today wrapped up with the prize giving ceremony. From what i observed, children nowadays should show a little more manners when receiving a prize. saying 'thank you' and receiving the prize with both hands are gestures that are simple but give a much better impression to everyone.

This again proves my belief that sports can groom a well-rounded person, in terms of coordination, discipline, determination, time-management and in this case manners. That is why rhythmic gymnastics will always be part of my life.

Coaching Is No easy Job But I Love It

Phew!! I knew before this that coaching is a challenging job but I have never really experience it before until recent years. I have seen how disappointed my coaches got if we didn't do well, how they work through the night to get the forms, music, routine done....I admit that recent experience taught me that coaching small kids is not a job that should be taken lightly, especially when Hwei Ling and I have to handle 20 over girls aged 4 to 8 years. In fact, most of my time is spent on getting their attention. They tend to lose concentration very easily. But the fact is there are kids and kids are like that. I guess their concentration will come with training. It requires lots and lots of patience. But you know what, I am loving every moment of it!!

Sometimes, people ask me why don't I coach older gymnasts? The truth is, I love the young girls:) There are so so cute! What they say, how they act and everything is just so so.....spontaneous. But that is the way people should act, isn't it? Spontaneous. As we grow up, we tend to be aware about how we talk, what we do, how we dress and so on, all the time the 'real' us is hiding behind somewhere all these masks which kind of drive us towards acting what the society perceive as 'normal', or should I say formal. Frankly, we are kind of restricting ourselves from expressing our feelings, our character, to show everybody who we really are. That, I learned from these innocent little girls. Thanks girls! If only they could understand all these...

Well, tomorrow will be their first competition. They were all so excited this morning when I reminded them about this.  They have been putting in lots of effort over the weeks, doing their best to take in whatever that is forced into them all at once and never once complain...Haha:) But, yeah, they did it, they improved a lot, that's the most important thing. Good Luck Girls, remember to smile, straight knees, point your toes, listen to the music and most of all enjoy yourself! ( and again, if only they could read this right now)

Time to go. Big day tomorrow. Got to get some sleep. In fact, I think I am as nervous as they are. Coaches usually feel this right?
